Welcome to Year Two!
In Year Two we have Miss Sadler (2KS) and Miss Langford-Jones (2RLJ) as Class Teachers.
Mrs Nuttall, Miss Addiss and Mrs Brough support the children as Teaching Assistants. Mrs Gollings will work across the year group, providing specialist support. We are also joined by Miss Booth this year who will be working with 2RLJ.
2KS’ classroom is located just inside the infant building internal entrance and accessed through entrance G from the infant playground.
2RLJ’s classroom is located in the mobile.
Children need reading books in school every day. Reading books should be brought in school book bags and will be stored in classroom trays. Children need to have a P.E. kit in school which consists of a T-shirt, shorts and school pumps. A pair of Wellington boots should also be brought into school for outdoor play and Forest School work. Children have a spelling book and spelling tests take place on Fridays. Our weekly timetable can be found at the bottom of this page.
What we do:
Every day the children take part in fun and exciting activities to promote their development and learning. We undertake daily Phonics, Literacy and Maths lessons. We also underpin our learning with ICT through using iPads and laptops in class. Once a fortnight we work with Mr Bean and Miss Ikoku for an Outdoor Learning activity, and we promote physical activity through formal and informal P.E. lessons. We plan our learning from the children’s interests and this forms the basis of any topics studied.
Topics – 2015-2016:
Autumn – Chocaholics
Spring - Did Grandad have an iPad?
Summer - There's a wolf in my garden!
In the Autumn Term we have a very exciting trip planned to Cadbury's World. This trip will take place on Tuesday 27th September 2016. This will ignite the children's interest in our new topic.
Homework and Spellings:
In Year 2 we set homework projects linked to children’s topics and learning. A project is set every half term. Please find the homework projects set below.
Spelling tests will take place on a Friday each week.
On Fridays we will send parents a letter by email explaining what the children have learnt that week. It will contain links to websites and games that will support the children’s learning as well as any other information that needs to be relayed.
Every week we invite relatives of the children into class to support with reading and storytime. This takes place every Thursday 8.45-9.15am)
Purple mash is an online learning websites where the children engage with the curriculum. Children have their own login and are shown how to access them at school. Please explore this website at home for fun, educational games: https://www.purplemash.com/sch/
The children have been busy with Miss Ikoku in the new school gardens and have planted some yummy vegetables. The children are responsible for watering and maintaining the gardens weekly and we look forward to enjoying the rewards of all their hard work soon!
Welcome back to the start of a new school year. We hope that all of the children are excited to be entering Year 2.
